Mancini sets twin target

Roberto Mancini hopes to be celebrating a double success at the end of the season after knocking out Porto in the Europa League and welcoming Carlos Tevez back into his plans for the remainder of the Premier League campaign.

Manchester City scored three goals in the final 14 minutes at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday to see off Porto 4-0 and complete a 6-1 aggregate success in the last 32 of the Europa League.

Mancini has now set his sights on going all the way in the competition, but he will not take his focus off domestic matters either and wants City to become Premier League champions.

When asked about the twin trophy push, Mancini said: "We hope so but it is not easy.

"We want to try to go to the final if possible but it will be difficult because the Europa League has top squads - Manchester United, Valencia, Schalke - it is like the Champions League.

"For this reason it will be difficult but we want to try.

"After that the Barclays Premier League - we are top, and if we win the next 13 games we will win the league."

Mancini confirmed after the victory over Porto that he would pick Tevez again after accepting the striker's apology for his recent conduct.

Tevez has not played since falling into dispute with the club last September but Mancini believes the striker could be match-fit again in two or three weeks.

Important

The 28-year-old was not registered for the Europa League because of his recent unauthorised absence but he could provide a useful option in the Premier League leaders' final title push.

Mancini said: "Carlos can't play in the Europa League but we will have four strikers for the Premier League and I think that will be good.

"If we go through in the Europa League it will be important to have four strikers."

Tevez's Argentine compatriot Sergio Aguero set City on their way to beating Porto with the opening goal after just 19 seconds, while fellow striker Edin Dzeko was also on target as Mario Balotelli was kept on the bench.

Mancini said: "Sergio is another top striker but he is still young and needs to improve. He has scored a lot of goals.

"He has been important during the season but it is important now, and during the last two months, to have all the strikers available.

"I am happy also for Edin, scoring another goal.

"If we have Carlos, Mario, Edin and Sergio on the top I think it will be good for the team."
